Confidence: Losing & Rebuilding It.
Feb 19, 2026
Here’s something no one tells you about business: the hardest part isn't the financial pressure or the long hours.
It's the silent erosion of your confidence.
You don’t realise how much this impacts your entire life.
I've completely lost mine twice now.
The first was when I walked away from my last business partnership leaving everything I had on the table.
The other was about two years ago lasting right up until last year.
It wasn’t just that our balance sheet was in the red, my belief in my ability to run the company was, too.
That’s the real cost of a rough patch.
When times get tough, it’s not just about losing money; it’s about losing the conviction that you can make the right calls.
That silent doubt creeps in, and before you know it, you're playing defense all day, everyday.
You slow down.
You stop trusting your gut.
You see threats everywhere.
And every decision feels like a coin toss instead of having your normal conviction.
F*ck it sucks.
But here’s the good news: confidence isn’t a one-time gift. It’s built, not found.
And you don’t need a massive win to get it back.
I rebuilt mine brick by brick recently (with the help of a great team).
A tough call that went better than expected, a successful negotiation, a good hire that made a difference, a product change that allowed us to increase prices, a new meeting cadence that unlocked insights, the list goes on...
Each of these moments felt like nothing on its own, but together, they created momentum.
Once that foundation was there, literally everything started to transform.
We started making faster, clearer decisions and began spotting opportunities to improve the business instead of just seeing catastrophic risks we needed to avoid.
But for me personally, the win was even bigger.
The weight started lifting (you know what I’m talking about).
Not enormously. But just enough to stop feeling like someone had their foot on my throat.
I could breathe. I could stand up. I could start to see things clearer.
Fast forward 18 months, and the stress that had been growing inside my head like a thick fog finally started evaporating.
That tiny bit of clarity revealed the true impact it was having on the way I looked, felt and made decisions.
And when you’re aware of it and have a tiny bit of momentum, you feel unstoppable.
I want that feeling for you too.
It all started by stacking tiny, seemingly insignificant wins one after the other (beginning with your biggest pain points).
If you’re in a rough patch right now, remember this: your first job isn’t to scale. It’s to rebuild your confidence.
Do that first and you’ll be ready to play offense again. Ready to grow your business and unlock some freaken freedom.
I hope this resonates.
Have a great week.
